Local Decision Making discussions in Ngukurr

Alice Springs and Big Rivers Regional Development Officers (RDOs) recently took a field trip to the community of Ngukurr to discuss Local Decision Making (LDM).

LDM is an extensive ten-year plan to return local decision making to Aboriginal communities. The Northern Territory Government is developing and implementing a framework that aims to empower Aboriginal people in determining service delivery models that work best for their community and region.

The RDOs met with Ngukurr Aboriginal cultural advisors and discussed the opportunities and challenges of working with Aboriginal cultural governance structures within regions. The meeting substantiated the importance of community involvement in planning and setting priorities for initiatives to enhance service delivery coordination.
