Barkly Regional Deal
A Regional Deal for the Barkly Region has been confirmed with a $60 million commitment from the Commonwealth Government, the Northern Territory Government and the Barkly Regional Council.
The Commonwealth and NT Governments will invest $30 million each and the Barkly Regional Council has committed significant resources including land, local knowledge and regional infrastructure.
The Regional Deal aims to improve quality of life for Barkly residents on a number of fronts, by stimulating economic growth and helping to create jobs. It will see all tiers of government and the community working together to improve social, cultural and economic outcomes for Tennant Creek and the wider Barkly region.
Priorities include addressing overcrowding and other housing issues, better outcomes for the region’s youth, boosting key industries such as tourism and agribusiness, tackling alcohol-related crime and improving school attendance rates.
