Remuneration of Government Boards
This page provides information about the remuneration and administration of statutory and non-statutory Northern Territory Government boards and committees.
Government bodies may be established by or under an Act of Parliament (a statutory body) or by a decision of the Government or an individual Minister (a non-statutory body).
The Assembly Members and Statutory Officers (Remuneration and Other Entitlements) Act governs the setting of remuneration and other entitlements of members of statutory bodies.
Go to the Northern Territory Government's Current Legislation database to read the Act.
Classification system and remuneration rates for Government Statutory Boards
The Administrator may determine the classification structure for statutory bodies (under section 9 of the Act), which sets out the remuneration arrangements for members and chairpersons of statutory bodies including the rates of remuneration for each classification category.
Read the current determination effective from 1 March 2012.
The administrator may also determine personal entitlements for a member of a statutory body (under section 11 of the Act).
For the current list of determinations read:
The responsible Minister for a statutory body may, in accordance with the classification structure above, decide the class of statutory bodies to which the body belongs.
This list may be used as a point of reference when assessing the classification of new bodies.
How to classify or re-classify a Statutory Board
For more information on the process of classifying or changing the classification of a statutory body read the administrative guideline 1/2016 and the attached summary guide.
The remuneration and other entitlements of members of non-statutory bodies is at the discretion of the relevant Minister, but generally the framework for statutory bodies is used for consistency purposes.
