Celebrating Aboriginal Culture (Australia Day) Grant Program
The Northern Territory Government is looking at ways to evolve Australia Day to ensure it meaningfully acknowledges, recognises and celebrates Aboriginal culture and Aboriginal people’s contribution to our national identity.
As part of Australia Day celebrations in 2018, an inaugural Celebrating Aboriginal Culture (Australia Day) Grant was available to individuals, organisations and businesses for an event or activity that celebrates Aboriginal culture, language and history enhancing Australia Day across the Territory. All events and activities will be held between 22 January and 11 February 2018.
The events range from an opening of a bush tucker garden, healthy living competition, basket weaving, painting, traditional dancing, Aborginal vox pops, youth music and culture programs to local cuisine tasting. Other ceremonies include smoking/welcome to country, storytelling about Aboriginal history and culture, music and an Australiana Day.
The Celebrating Aboriginal Culture (Australia Day) Consultative Committee consisting of Aboriginal Territorians will provide advice to the government about evolving Australia Day.
