$26 million upgrade for the Tennant Creek Power Station
The Northern Territory Government has announced a further boost to Territory power supply with plans to invest $26 million to upgrade the Tennant Creek Power Station.
The upgrade is an important investment that will increase the reliability and efficiency of power supply and help reduce electricity prices. It will also see a reduction in emissions and create employment in the region with 27 direct jobs expected to come during the construction phase.
The upgrades will give Barkly residents increased confidence in their power supply and create high efficiency power plants with improved environmental outcomes.
The upgrade of Tennant Creek Power Station will involve the implementation of three 2 megawatt gas fired spark ignition reciprocating engines and a 1.5 MW diesel fired reciprocating engine power station to be located adjacent to the existing plant.
Clarke Energy was awarded the tender.
The new capacity is expected to be commissioned in July 2017.
