Alice Springs After Hours Youth Service

The coordinated after-hours youth service in Alice Springs has transported 2,463 young people from the Alice Springs CBD to safe locations since the service commenced on 2 November 2015.

The partnership between Central Australian Aboriginal Congress (CAAC) and the Alice Springs Town Council (ASTC) is aimed at delivering a consistent and coordinated approach to early intervention, after-hours engagement and support services for young people.

Youth supported through the after-hours service are being referred to relevant agencies and services to ensure there is appropriate follow-up and case management.

In addition to delivering an integrated case management response to at-risk youth through a positive engagement approach, the program will also deliver the following outcomes:

  • enhanced security and amenity in the CBD, complementing existing Police and private security networks;
  • ability to return youth to their place of residence, reducing the reliance on NT Police for this service; and
  • increased awareness of programs and services available to youth.
