Palmerston Regional Hospital main building now complete

The main building structure of the new $170 million Palmerston Regional Hospital is now complete, just over 12 months since construction commenced.

The two-level health facility remains on target for opening to patients in mid-2018.

Territory company MMC was awarded the job of  fabricating and erecting the structural steel roofing component for the new hospital. So far more than 60 tonnes has been installed, with more than 200 tonnes of steel still to go up.

Internal fit-out works have now commenced with the installation of essential services for fire, mechanical and water.

Local Territory businesses have been awarded more than $100 million in trade packages for this project so far.

A further $35 million in trade packages are still to be awarded with tenders for structural steel covered ways and external civil works for landscaping and car parking to be advertised in the new year.

During peak construction, it is expected there will be around 300 people employed on site.
