Bringing back the Arafura Games

A long established icon of the Top End, the Arafura Games will be back in 2019.

The Northern Territory Government has committed to bring back the Arafura Games to leverage the cultural, economic and social benefits of an international sporting event.

The Games will be a biennial event held 27 April – 4 May 2019.

The 2019 Games will also showcase the Northern Territory’s unique arts, culture, history, trade and investment opportunities. It is an event through which friendship, goodwill and understanding between competing nations and the Northern Territory is fostered.

Feedback from Territorians helped to inform the scope and format of the new Games which included 200 survey responses, 42 written submissions and 44 consultation hearings held with local sporting associations.
